The Kangxi period was one of the most productive period of Chinese ceramics. Blue and White glazed porcelain is probably the most immediately recognisable art production which flourished under this period. Blue-and-white porcelain was particularly admired by the Imperial court, and it was produced for both domestic use and for export outside China,  displaying various decorative pattern.

In Ancient Chinese mythology and culture the Chinese Phoenix, also known as Fenghuang, was a bird that symbolised the union of male and female. The Phoenix was also connected to the yin and yang, a core of Chinese philosophy, representing balance and harmony in the universe. The Chinese Phoenix was also a sign of virtue, harmony, and prosperity, often seen in decorations for weddings and royal ceremonies.
