The Ptolemaic Kingdom was a Hellenistic kingdom based in Ancient Egypt. The dynasty began with Ptolemy I Soter, who succeeded Alexander the Great in 323 BC, and came to an end with the death of Cleopatra in the Roman conquest of 30BC. The kingdom spread from southern Syria to Cyrene and to Numbia, and its capital was Alexandria.
